Molotov launches “Molotov pour l'Ecole” (Molotov for School)
Paris, April 16, 2020

At a time when more than 12 million students are effectively being homeschooled, Molotov has mobilized to launch in record time "Molotov pour l’Ecole" (Molotov for School), a new category dedicated to school students accessible on Molotov. Television channels offer many programs such as news and information shows, documentaries, and movies which illustrate school curricula in an effective and entertaining way.
Molotov pour l'Ecole aims at enriching our children’s learning by bringing together all relevant television programs seamlessly organized by grade (K through 12) and by theme (personalities, historical events, science...), thus transforming television into a real and user-friendly educational tool.
Molotov completes that offering with audiovisual courses for secondary school students produced by the Toulouse-based start-up SchoolMouv, one of France’s leading online platforms dedicated to student help.
Molotov pour l’Ecole consists of:
- for kindergarten and primary school children: edutainment programs, reports and documentaries
- for secondary school students: edutainment shows, documentaries and reports, as well as close to 1.000 courses from 6th to 12th grade, designed by professional National Education teachers in all the main subjects and in accordance with official programs
- Documentaries for School: hundreds of documentaries on history, outstanding personalities, science, nature, geography, etc... relating to the topics covered at school
- Cinema for School: cinema films selected because they illustrate the school programs
Molotov pour l’Ecole is free. The 1,000 courses (worth 19.99€ /month) will be available free of charge until May 15th (date supposed to be the end of confinement for students in France), so that all students can benefit from the service until the schools reopen. Content from pay channels is available via subscription at the channels’ rate (most often with one month free).
For JeanDavid Blanc, founder and President of Molotov: « From Molotov's origins, we wanted to show pupils and students the richness of television when viewed through the prism of school curricula. We are very pleased to complete this offer with the extremely high quality content from SchoolMouv. It is not a question here of replacing the lessons and the assignments entrusted to the pupils by their teachers, but of completing and illustrating them pleasantly. »
For Shannon Picardo, founder and CEO of SchoolMouv, « At SchoolMouv we have been working to democratize academic support for a long time. This initiative shows once again that the entrepreneurial world can mobilize quickly during an unprecedented period to support parents, students and teachers. We are very proud to launch this channel with Molotov, hoping that it will serve as many learners as possible. »
This initiative is supported by numerous partners, including Mediawan with the « Sciences et Vie TV » and « Toute l’Histoire » channels, Purebreak (Webedia Group), L'Étudiant, Teads, Klassroom (the ideal parent-teacher communication app for pedagogical continuity), Bayard Press with the Okapi and Phosphore magazines, TCL and Nice Matin.
SchoolMouv was founded in 2015 with a clear ambition: to democratize educational support by making it accessible to all families and by offering an innovative format adapted to middle and high school students. A pioneer of EdTech, SchoolMouv is the first 100% online pedagogical support site that offers video lessons, chat between teachers and students, and content covering the entire curriculum from 6th to 12th grade. SchoolMouv is used by 35,000 teachers, more than 200 of whom participate in building the content. Today, the platform supports more than 2 million students in France and enables them to gain 3.2 points in their overall average.
Created by JeanDavid Blanc (founder of AlloCiné) and Pierre Lescure (co-founder of Canal+), Molotov is an OTT distribution platform which revolutionizes the access to television, available on all screens and connected devices (TechCrunch). Molotov allows the seamless integration of linear and non-linear programs of over 170 content editors and channels within a revolutionary user experience. Recognized “Best application of the year” by the App-Store (Apple) and Google Play (Android) users three times, and with over 10 million registered users after only 3 years of existence, Molotov has become the French leader in OTT video content distribution.
